St Thomas's Church in Derby is a special church for the Church of England. It's located in Derby, a city in Derbyshire, England.
History of St Thomas' Church
This church was built to remember a respected local leader named Thomas Hill. The first stone was put in place on March 25, 1881. It was laid by Mrs. Alfred Oliver, who was Thomas Hill's daughter.
The church was designed by an architect named Joseph Peacock. He was from Bloomsbury Square in London. The building work happened very quickly. The church was officially opened on December 22, 1881.
In 1996, four local church areas joined together. These were St James', St Augustine's, St Chad's, and St Thomas'. They formed a new larger area called Walbrook Epiphany.
The Church Organ
A special musical instrument, an organ, was put into the church in 1881. It was made by a company called Brindley & Foster. You can find more details about this organ on the National Pipe Organ Register.
