Stager is a small, unincorporated community located in Iron County, in the U.S. state of Michigan. An unincorporated community is a place that doesn't have its own local government, but is part of a larger township or county.
History of Stager
This community got its name from a person named Anson Stager. He was an important official who worked for the Western Union Telegraph Company. This company was famous for sending messages across long distances using telegraph lines, which were like the internet of their time!
A long time ago, Stager was a busy spot because of a railroad line. The Chicago and North Western Railway had a special path here for their trains and telegraph lines. This line connected Stager to another place called Wakefield, Michigan.
Today, you won't see any trains or old telegraph lines here. Instead, that old railroad path has been turned into something new and fun! It's now part of the State Line Trail, which is a path people can use for walking, biking, or other outdoor activities. It's a great example of how old transportation routes can be reused for recreation.
