Stanford M. Adelstein, born on August 19, 1931, is an American politician. He is a member of the Republican Party. He represented the people of South Dakota in their state government. He served in the South Dakota House of Representatives and later in the South Dakota Senate.
About Stan Adelstein
Growing Up and Learning
Stan Adelstein was born in Sioux City, Iowa. He spent his childhood in Rapid City, South Dakota. He finished high school in Denver, Colorado. This allowed him to learn more about his Jewish background.
He went to the University of Colorado Boulder. There, he studied civil engineering and business. After college, he served in the United States Army. In 1957, he returned to Rapid City.
His family started a company called Northwestern Engineering Company. Stan worked there and later took over the business. He also earned a special business degree from South Dakota School of Mines & Technology.
His Time in Politics
Stan Adelstein was first elected to the South Dakota House of Representatives in 2000. He served for four years in the House. In 2005, he was elected to the South Dakota Senate.
He served in the Senate until 2007. He then won the seat again in 2008. He ran without anyone opposing him in 2010 and 2012. In December 2013, he left the South Dakota Senate because of health reasons.
Family and Interests
Stan Adelstein has three sons. One of his sons is Jonathan Adelstein.
Stan Adelstein is also known for trying to keep the fossil of a dinosaur named Sue in South Dakota. Sue is the largest Tyrannosaurus rex ever found. He offered a lot of money to buy the fossil. However, he was outbid at an auction in New York City. His efforts were shown in a movie called Dinosaur 13.
