Stanisław Karubin (born October 29, 1915 – died August 12, 1941) was a brave Polish pilot. He was known as a "fighter ace" during World War II. This means he shot down at least five enemy planes. Karubin was part of the Polish Air Force. He is officially credited with shooting down 7 enemy aircraft.

His Life and Flying Career

Stanisław Karubin trained at a special school for young officers. After finishing his training, he joined the 111th Fighter Escadrille (Poland). This was a Polish fighter squadron.

Fighting in Poland and France

His first big moment came on September 3, 1939. He shot down a German Bf 110 plane. This happened during the Polish Defensive War.

Later, in January 1940, he traveled to France. He continued to fight against the Germans there. On June 3, he shot down another enemy plane. It was either a Do 17 or a Do 215.

Joining the Battle of Britain

When France was defeated, Karubin moved to the UK. He then joined the famous No. 303 Polish Fighter Squadron. This squadron played a big part in the Battle of Britain. This was a huge air battle over England.

During the Battle of Britain, Karubin was very successful. He destroyed five German aircraft. On September 6, 1940, his plane was hit. He had to use his parachute to escape safely.

Later Life and Tragic End

On September 18, he received a very important award. It was called the Virtuti Militari. After the Battle of Britain, he went to a training unit. This was called No. 55 Operational Training Unit RAF.

Sadly, Stanisław Karubin died on August 12, 1941. He was flying in cloudy weather. His plane hit a mountainside in Cumbria, England. Another Polish pilot, Zygmunt Höhne, also died in the same accident.
