Stanley "Doc" Glenn (September 16, 1926 – April 16, 2011) was a talented baseball catcher. He played for the Philadelphia Stars in the historic Negro leagues. This was from 1944 to 1950. After that, he played three years in minor leagues. He also played two years in a senior league in Canada.

Doc Glenn was born in Wachapreague, Virginia. A famous baseball player, Oscar Charleston, discovered him. He signed Glenn right out of John Bartram High School in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.

Doc Glenn's Baseball Career

Stanley Glenn was known as "Doc" during his baseball career. He was a catcher, a very important position on a baseball team. Doc played for the Philadelphia Stars. This team was part of the Negro leagues. He played with them from 1944 to 1950.

After his time in the Negro leagues, Doc Glenn continued playing. He spent three years in minor league baseball. He also played for the St. Thomas Elgins in Canada. This was in the early 1950s.

Life After Baseball

After he stopped playing baseball, Doc Glenn started a new career. He worked for 40 years in the electric supply business. He sold electrical parts to other businesses.

In 2006, Doc Glenn became an author. He published his first book. It was called Don't Let Anyone Take Your Joy Away. The book shared his experiences. It gave an inside look at Negro League baseball. It also talked about the league's lasting impact.

Honors and Recognition

Doc Glenn received many honors for his contributions. These honors recognized his time in baseball. They also celebrated his work after his playing days.

White House Recognition

In February 1994, Doc Glenn was honored at the White House. Vice-President Al Gore recognized him. Several other players from the Negro leagues were also honored. This was a special moment for them.

Baseball Hall of Fame

In 2004, Doc Glenn was inducted into a special hall of fame. He joined the Eastern Shore Baseball Hall of Fame. This hall of fame is located in Maryland. It celebrates great baseball players from that region.

Leading the Players' Association

Stanley "Doc" Glenn was very active in his retirement. He became the president of a special group. This group was the Negro Leagues Baseball Players Association's Board of Directors. He worked to support former players. He helped keep the history of the Negro leagues alive.

Doc Glenn passed away on April 16, 2011. He died in Yeadon, Pennsylvania. He was laid to rest at Ferwood Cemetery. This cemetery is in Lansdowne, Pennsylvania.
