Stanton is a city in Kentucky, United States. It is the main town, or "county seat," of Powell County. In 2020, about 3,251 people lived there. Stanton is also famous as the birthplace of Woody Stephens, a very successful horse trainer. He is in the National Museum of Racing Hall of Fame.

History of Stanton
Stanton got its first post office on July 7, 1849. It was first called Beaver Pond because of a small lake made by beavers nearby. In 1852, the town and post office were renamed Stanton. This was done to honor Richard H. Stanton. He served in the U.S. Congress from 1849 to 1855.
In the late 1800s and early 1900s, Stanton was a busy center for cutting down trees. This was a big industry in Eastern Kentucky. A railroad also connected the city to many other parts of the country. The railroad tracks have since been removed. However, the old train station is still there. It is now home to the Powell County Tourism Association.
Geography of Stanton
Stanton is located at 37°50′51″N 83°51′33″W / 37.84750°N 83.85917°W. It lies in the flat area next to the Red River.
The United States Census Bureau says the city covers about 2.0 square miles (5.2 square kilometers). All of this area is land.
Education in Stanton
Public schools in Stanton are managed by the Powell County School District. The district runs several schools:

Stanton also has a public library, called the Powell County Public Library. It is a place where you can borrow books.

Stanton hosts fun events throughout the year.
Annual Corn Festival
Every year, during the first weekend of August, Stanton holds its annual Corn Festival. This tradition started on August 5–6, 1989. The festival has many exciting activities, such as:
- Corn eating contests
- Talent shows
- Beauty competitions
- Car shows
- Cornhole tournaments
Local artists also set up booths to show and sell their art. About 5,000 people visit the festival each year.
Powell County Fair
Another event near Stanton is the Powell County Fair. It takes place in the second week of September. The fair is held at the local Lion's Club Park. This park is also known as the Powell County Fairgrounds. The fair has many booths where businesses and groups share information. It also includes rides and fun events like:
