Star Worlds Arcade is an awesome place to play video games in DeKalb, Illinois. It first opened its doors on January 11, 1985, in Maple Park, Illinois. Back then, it only had 18 arcade games. Today, Star Worlds has hundreds of games! They change the games often, so there's always something new to try.
The arcade moved to DeKalb in 2004. The owner, Patrick O'Malley, and his partner, Glenn Thomas, needed more space. They also wanted to reach more players. Star Worlds is mostly a video game arcade. It even has special rooms just for games from the "Golden Age of Video Arcade Games." This was a time when arcade games were super popular!
Star Worlds is also like a small museum. It shows off cool items linked to arcade games and 1980s pop culture. It's even on a special list called the Twin Galaxies International Registry of Historic Video Game Arcades. This means it's one of the few old neighborhood arcades still open since the 1980s!
How Star Worlds Arcade Started
Patrick O'Malley began collecting arcade games when he was a teenager. He kept them in his parents' garage in Maple Park. Later, he moved his games into a bigger store.
