The Stawamus River is a small, creek-like river located in the beautiful province of British Columbia, Canada. It flows into a large ocean inlet called Howe Sound. You can find its mouth just east of where the bigger Squamish River also meets the sound.

The Stawamus River's Journey

The Stawamus River starts its adventure at the end of Stawamus Lake. This lake is like a natural pool high up in the Pacific Ranges mountains. From there, the river begins to flow.

River's Path Through Mountains

First, the Stawamus River travels north for about 5.3 kilometers (about 3.3 miles). Then, it makes a turn and flows northwest for another 6.7 kilometers (about 4.2 miles). During this part of its journey, the river winds its way through the mountains.

Reaching the District of Squamish

After leaving the mountains, the Stawamus River enters the District of Squamish. This is a town located in a scenic area. Once it reaches Squamish, the river changes direction again.

Final Stretch to Howe Sound

The river then turns west and flows for about 4 kilometers (about 2.5 miles). This final stretch brings it to its mouth. The Stawamus River empties into Squamish Harbour, which is part of the larger Howe Sound. The Stawamus River does not have any big rivers flowing into it.
