Stephan "Steff" Eberharter, born on March 24, 1969, is a famous former alpine ski racer from Austria. He was one of the best skiers in the world, competing in the World Cup. He won many races and titles during his amazing career.

Stephan Eberharter's Early Life and Career

Stephan was born in Brixlegg, a town in Tyrol, Austria. He started his journey in the World Cup in 1990 when he was 20 years old. In his second year, 1991, he quickly showed how talented he was. He won two gold medals at the World Championships in Saalbach. These wins were in the Super-G and Combined events. Because of his great success, he was named the Austrian Sportspersonality of the year for 1991.

Becoming a World Champion Skier

After some injuries, Stephan became very strong in the downhill event. He was a top competitor in the late 1990s and early 2000s. His main rival was his fellow Austrian skier, Hermann Maier.

In 2001, Hermann Maier had a serious accident. With Maier out of the competition, Eberharter truly shined. He won the overall World Cup title two years in a row, in 2002 and 2003. He also won the season titles for downhill and Super-G in those years.

One of his most famous wins was in 2004 at the Hahnenkamm downhill race in Kitzbühel. He won by a huge margin, beating the second-place skier by 1.21 seconds. This was a very impressive victory in alpine skiing history.
