Stephen's Baseball Journey

Stephen Larkin went to the University of Texas at Austin. He played college baseball for the Texas Longhorns team. He even played in the College World Series in both 1992 and 1993.

Starting in the Minors

In 1994, the Texas Rangers picked Stephen in the 10th round of the draft. He began playing in the minor leagues. His first teams were the Low-A Hudson Valley Renegades and then the Single-A Charleston RiverDogs in 1995. He also played a few games for the Winston-Salem Warthogs that same year.

In 1996, Stephen played for the Single-A Charleston AlleyCats for half a season. He then returned to the Winston-Salem Warthogs. He stayed with the Warthogs through the 1997 season.

His Big MLB Game

In 1998, Stephen Larkin was called up from the minor leagues. He was playing for the Chattanooga Lookouts at the time. He joined the Cincinnati Reds for his only MLB game. This game was special because Stephen played first base, and his brother Barry Larkin played shortstop. Also, Bret Boone played second base, and his younger brother Aaron Boone played third base. This was the only time in baseball history that two sets of brothers were on the field at the same time!

Stephen Larkin got a single hit during the game. The ball went between the opponent's first and second basemen. This happened in the bottom of the sixth inning of a home game. It was against the Pittsburgh Pirates and was the Reds' last game of the season. The Reds had already been eliminated from the playoffs that year. The Reds won this game, 4 to 1.

Stephen spent the 1999 and 2000 seasons with the Chattanooga Lookouts. He finished his baseball career playing in independent professional leagues from 2001 to 2005.
