Stephens is a small community located in Oglethorpe County, Georgia, USA. It's not a city with its own government, but rather an unincorporated community. In 2010, about 1,035 people lived in the area served by Stephens' post office. You can find Stephens along State Route 77, between the towns of Maxeys and Lexington. History of Stephens, Georgia
Stephens used to be known by a different name: "Antioch." The community was later named after Alexander Stephens (1812–1883). He was an important political figure who served as the Vice President of the Confederate States of America.
Today, there isn't much left of the old community center. A railroad track that once ran through Stephens was removed in 2000. Now, you might see a few empty buildings, including a convenience store that recently closed. However, the area's ZIP code still covers most of southern Oglethorpe County.
