Stephen J. Bisciotti (born April 10, 1960) is an American businessman. He is best known as the main owner of the Baltimore Ravens, a professional football team in the National Football League (NFL). He also started a big company called Aerotek. This company helps other businesses find the right people to hire. He also co-founded Allegis Group, which is one of the largest companies in the world for finding and managing talent.
Early Life and Family
Steve Bisciotti was born on April 10, 1960, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. He was the youngest of three children in his family. In 1961, his parents, Bernard and Patricia Bisciotti, moved their family to Severna Park, Maryland. This was a suburb near Baltimore.
When Steve was 8 years old, his father passed away. After this, his grandfather, C. Gordon Johnston, helped support the family. As a child, Steve often went to watch the Baltimore Orioles baseball team and the Colts football team play.
School and Early Business
Steve went to Severn School for two years. Then he moved to Severna Park High School. In his last year of high school, he played on the football team. He has said that he played football, baseball, and basketball a lot when he was growing up.
In 1982, Steve graduated from Salisbury State University in Maryland. He earned a degree in liberal arts. Just one year later, when he was 23, he started a company called Aerotek with his cousin, Jim Davis. They started the company in a basement office with used equipment. Aerotek helped companies find workers for jobs in aerospace and technology. In their first year, they made $1.5 million in sales!
Aerotek grew into a much larger company called the Allegis Group. Today, it is one of the biggest private companies in the world that helps businesses find employees.
Owning a Football Team
On March 27, 2000, Steve Bisciotti became a part-owner of the Baltimore Ravens football team. He bought 49% of the team. His deal allowed him to buy the rest of the team in 2004 from Art Modell.
The Ravens won their first Super Bowl, Super Bowl XXXV, on January 28, 2001. This was a big win for the team and for Steve. On April 9, 2004, Steve officially bought the rest of the team and became the main owner.
One of the first things Steve did as the owner was to build a new, modern training center for the team. This facility is called "The Castle" and it opened in October 2004.
Steve made some important decisions for the team. After the 2007 season, he hired John Harbaugh as the new head coach. Many people were surprised by this choice. However, under Coach Harbaugh, the Ravens went on to win another Super Bowl. In 2012, the Baltimore Ravens had a great season. They won Super Bowl XLVII on February 3, 2013, by beating the San Francisco 49ers.
In 2005, Steve Bisciotti was listed among the richest Americans by Forbes magazine.
