Steven Scott Harwell (born January 9, 1967 – died September 4, 2023) was an American singer. He was best known as the lead singer for the rock band Smash Mouth. He helped start the band in 1994 and was their frontman until he stopped performing in 2021. For most of that time, he and bassist Paul De Lisle were the only two original members still in the band.

Steve Harwell's Music Career
Steve Harwell, along with Greg Camp, Kevin Coleman, and Paul De Lisle, formed the band Smash Mouth. Before joining Smash Mouth, Harwell was a rapper in a group called F.O.S.
Famous Songs and Appearances
Harwell became very well-known for Smash Mouth's hit song "All Star". This song was very popular and is still loved by many people today.
He also sang two songs, "Beside Myself" and "Everything Just Crazy," for an animated movie called Pororo, The Racing Adventure in 2013. Steve Harwell also appeared on different television and radio shows. He even had a small role in the 2001 movie Rat Race.
Health During Performances
During a concert in Urbana, Illinois, on August 27, 2016, Harwell became unwell on stage. He was taken to a hospital. The rest of the band finished the concert, with Paul De Lisle singing in his place.
Steve Harwell's Personal Life
Steve Harwell had a son named Presley. Sadly, Presley passed away in July 2001 when he was only six months old. He died from a serious illness called acute lymphocytic leukemia. After this sad event, Harwell started a special fund to help with medical research in his son's name.
Steve Harwell's Passing
On September 3, 2023, it was shared that Steve Harwell was very ill. He was receiving special care at home because of a serious liver condition. His representative said he had only a few days left. Harwell passed away the next day, on September 4, 2023, at his home in Boise, Idaho. He was 56 years old.
