Steven Bernard Sheppard (born March 21, 1954) is a former professional basketball player from New York City. He was known by the nickname "Bear" during his playing days.

Sheppard was a talented 6-foot-6-inch forward. He played college basketball at the University of Maryland. One of his biggest achievements was winning a gold medal at the 1976 Summer Olympics with the United States national basketball team.

Olympic Gold Medalist

Steve Sheppard was a key player on the United States men's basketball team. This team competed in the 1976 Summer Olympics held in Montreal, Canada. The team played incredibly well throughout the tournament. They managed to win the gold medal, which is the highest honor in the Olympics. This was a very proud moment for Sheppard and his teammates.

Playing in the NBA

After his success at the Olympics, Steve Sheppard was chosen in the 1977 NBA draft. The Chicago Bulls picked him as the 30th player overall, in the second round. He played for the Bulls for part of two seasons.

Later, he also played for the Detroit Pistons. In total, Sheppard played for two seasons in the NBA, from 1977 to 1979. During his time in the NBA, he scored 367 points and grabbed 178 rebounds. After his NBA career, he also played professional basketball in Italy for a team called Eldorado Roma.
