Stephen Lewis Stroughter (born March 15, 1952 – died March 6, 2018) was an American baseball player. He played as a designated hitter and left fielder. Steve Stroughter is best known for playing in Major League Baseball (MLB) for the Seattle Mariners in 1982. He also played professional baseball in Japan.

Steve Stroughter's Baseball Journey

Steve Stroughter started his baseball career by being chosen in the MLB Draft. This is when professional teams pick young players to join their organizations. He was drafted by the California Angels in 1970, but he decided not to sign with them.

Early Career and Minor Leagues

He was drafted again in 1971 by the Chicago Cubs, but still didn't sign. Later that year, the San Francisco Giants drafted him, and this time he signed to play. This began his journey in professional baseball.

For over ten years, Steve played in the minor leagues. These are teams that help players develop their skills before they reach the major leagues. He was known as a good player in the minors, hitting well and showing some power.

Making it to the Major Leagues

Steve Stroughter finally made his big league debut on April 7, 1982, when he was 30 years old. He played for the Seattle Mariners. In his very first time at bat in a major league game, he was a pinch-hitter. This means he batted in place of another player.

During his time in the major leagues, Steve played in 26 games. He hit one home run and had three runs batted in (RBIs). One of his best games was on May 4, 1982, when he hit a home run off a famous pitcher named Dennis Martínez.

Playing in Japan

After his time in Major League Baseball, Steve Stroughter went back to playing in the minor leagues for a bit. He also had the chance to play professional baseball in Japan. In 1983, he played in 28 games for the Hanshin Tigers, a team in Japan's top baseball league.

Steve Stroughter passed away on March 6, 2018.
