Stephen Cabot Williams (born September 21, 1981) is a former professional football player. He played as a defensive end, which is a player who tries to stop the other team from scoring. Steve Williams was signed by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2006. He was an undrafted free agent, meaning he wasn't chosen by a team during the main player selection event (the NFL draft). He played college football at Northwest Missouri State. Williams also played for the Carolina Panthers, New England Patriots, and BC Lions.

Early Life and High School Football

Steve Williams grew up in Bolingbrook, Illinois. He went to Bolingbrook High School. While there, he was a star in two sports. He earned "all-state" honors in football, meaning he was one of the best players in the entire state. He was also a state champion in wrestling.

College Football Journey

After high school, Williams started his college football career at Indiana University. In his first year (2000), he played in 10 games and made 10 tackles. A tackle is when a defensive player stops the player with the ball. In his second year (2001), he played 11 games and made 17 tackles, plus one sack. A sack is when a defensive player tackles the quarterback behind the line of scrimmage.

In 2002, he moved to Northern Illinois University but did not play football that year. He returned to the field in 2004 at Northwest Missouri State University. There, he became a top player, earning a "first-team All-MIAA" award. This means he was recognized as one of the best players in his college sports conference. He made 52 tackles that season. In 2005, he played in five games and recorded 31 tackles.

Professional Football Career

Starting with the Kansas City Chiefs

Even though Steve Williams wasn't picked in the 2006 NFL draft, the Kansas City Chiefs signed him as a free agent. He joined their team on May 17, 2006. He spent some time on the Chiefs' "practice squad," which is a group of players who train with the team but aren't on the main roster. They can be called up to play if needed. Williams was moved to the main roster and played in 11 games during the 2006 season, making four tackles.

Playing for the Carolina Panthers

In 2007, Williams signed with the Carolina Panthers. He was later placed on the team's "injured reserve" list. This list is for players who are hurt and cannot play. He was released from this list a few days later. He re-signed with the Panthers in 2008 but was released again before the season started.

Time with the New England Patriots

After not playing in 2008, Steve Williams signed with the New England Patriots in May 2009. He was later released by the team in September 2009.

Playing in Canada: The BC Lions

Later in 2009, Williams decided to play in the Canadian Football League (CFL). He signed with the BC Lions on September 22, 2009. He played for the Lions for parts of two seasons before being released in January 2011.

Back to the New England Patriots

Steve Williams returned to the New England Patriots in July 2011. However, he was released again by the team in August of that year.
