Steven Wayne Daniels (born December 12, 1992) is an American college football coach and former professional football player. He used to play as a linebacker, which is a player who helps stop the other team from scoring. Today, he is the defensive line coach for the University of Massachusetts Amherst (UMass). He started this job in 2024.
Steven played college football at Boston College. After college, he was chosen by the Washington Redskins in the 2016 NFL draft. He went to St. Xavier High School in Cincinnati. Later, he spent a year at Worcester Academy before going to Boston College. In his last year at Boston College, he was named one of the best players in the Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC).
Playing in the NFL
Steven Daniels played for a few teams in the National Football League (NFL).
Washington Redskins
The Washington Redskins picked Steven in the seventh round of the 2016 NFL draft. This means he was the 232nd player chosen overall. Sadly, during a training camp in August 2016, Steven hurt his shoulder. This injury needed surgery and meant he couldn't play in his first season. The Redskins later decided to let him go in May 2017.
Philadelphia Eagles
The very next day, on May 3, 2017, the Philadelphia Eagles picked up Steven. This is called being "claimed off waivers." However, the Eagles let him go in June 2017. They signed him again for three years in July, but then let him go again in August 2017.
New York Giants
On August 15, 2017, Steven Daniels joined the New York Giants. He was with them for a short time before they also let him go in September 2017.
Coaching Career
After his time as a player, Steven Daniels started a new path as a football coach.
He began as an intern at Boston College, helping out the team. In 2018, he became an assistant strength coach at Northeastern University. From 2019 to 2021, he worked at Bryant University as the coach for the inside linebackers.
In 2022, Steven returned to Boston College. This time, he was the assistant director of defensive recruiting. This job involves finding new players for the team's defense. In 2023, he joined UMass as a defensive analyst. This role means he helps study how the defense plays. In 2024, he was promoted to be the defensive line coach at UMass.
