Steven Ryan Taylor, born on November 9, 1993, is an American cricket player. He has been a part of the United States national cricket team since 2010. He even used to be the team captain! Steven is a left-handed batsman, meaning he hits the ball with his left hand. He also bowls with his right arm, using a style called "off spin." Besides playing for the USA, he has also played for different teams in the Caribbean Premier League, which is a big cricket tournament.

Steven Taylor's Cricket Journey

Early Years in Cricket

Steven was born in South Florida. His parents, Loveth and Sylvan Taylor, are from Jamaica. From a young age, Steven learned cricket from his father, Sylvan. He also had a mentor, Mark Johnson, who was a former USA left-handed batsman. Steven was a left-handed batsman and often started the batting for his team. He was also a wicket-keeper.

When he was just 14, Steven made history. He was the youngest player to score "half centuries" (50 runs or more) in two important local tournaments. One of these was against Pakistan, where he scored quickly, hitting 4 fours and 3 sixes in just 33 balls. He also scored very high runs like 212 and 206 in other matches. He was the youngest player in the top division of the South Florida Cricket Alliance.

Playing for the Under-19 Team

Steven was chosen to play for the United States national under-19 cricket team in 2010. This was for the 2010 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup held in New Zealand. He played as a wicket-keeper and batsman in this big tournament.

Later, Steven became the vice-captain for the ICC Americas Under-19 Championship. This tournament was held in Florida, USA, in 2010–11. The USA team won every game! Steven did very well, scoring 157 runs in 5 games. He also caught or stumped 7 players, showing his skill as a wicket-keeper.

International Cricket Career

Because of his great playing in local and Under-19 games, Steven was called up to the main USA team. This was for the 2010 ICC World Cricket League Division Four tournament. The USA team won this tournament, and Steven played in all the matches.

In 2011, the USA team didn't do as well in the 2011 ICC World Cricket League Division Three. They finished 5th and went back down to Division Four.

In 2012, Steven was chosen for the 2012 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier in the UAE. Later that year, he also played in the 2012 ICC World Cricket League Division Four in Malaysia.

Making Cricket History

In March 2013, Steven became the first USA batsman to score a "century" (100 runs) in a Twenty20 match. He scored 101 runs off 62 balls against Bermuda. He then scored another century, making 127 runs against the Cayman Islands.

Later in 2013, he played in the 2013 ICC World Cricket League Division Three. He was the top scorer in that tournament with 274 runs. He even scored 162 runs in the very first match against Nepal.

In 2015, Steven was picked for the 2015 ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier. However, he decided to play for the Barbados Tridents in the Caribbean Premier League instead. He was also considered for the Pakistan Super League in 2017. In the 2017 Caribbean Premier League, he joined the Guyana Amazon Warriors.

In May 2017, Steven reached a big milestone. He scored his 1,000th run in one-day cricket. He was only the fourth player for the United States to achieve this!
