Stevie Chalmers (born Thomas Stephen Chalmers, 26 December 1935 – 29 April 2019) was a Scottish footballer. He played as a centre-forward. Most of his career was spent with Celtic.
He is known for scoring the winning goal in the 1967 European Cup Final against Inter Milan. This made Celtic the first British team to win the European Cup. Chalmers is the fifth-highest goalscorer for Celtic with 236 goals. He is seen as one of their greatest players. After Celtic, he played for Morton and Partick Thistle. He also played five times for the Scottish national team.

Early Life and Start in Football
Stevie Chalmers was born on 26 December 1935 in Garngad, Glasgow. He went to St Roch's Secondary School. His family later moved to Balornock. His father, David, was also a footballer. He played for Clydebank.
Stevie left school at 14. In 1953, he joined Kirkintilloch Rob Roy. He then joined the RAF for national service in 1955. During this time, he played for Newmarket Town. After his service, he returned to Scotland. He signed with Ashfield, a junior team. In 1959, he played for the Scotland junior international team. Soon after, he joined Celtic. He made his first league appearance for Celtic in March 1959.
Playing for Celtic
Stevie Chalmers played for Celtic for 12 full seasons. He helped the club win many important titles. These included six league titles. They also won three Scottish Cups and four League Cups.
He was a key part of the famous Lisbon Lions team. This team won the European Cup in 1967. In the 1967 European Cup Final, he scored the winning goal. This goal came in the 85th minute of the game. It was a historic moment for Celtic and British football.
In 1969, Stevie broke his leg during the Scottish League Cup Final. This injury meant he missed the rest of that season. He also missed the 1970 European Cup Final.
Stevie Chalmers scored a total of 236 goals for Celtic. This makes him the fifth-highest goalscorer in the club's history. He is remembered as one of Celtic's greatest players.
Later Career and Retirement
After leaving Celtic Park in September 1971, Stevie was 35 years old. He continued to play in Scotland's top league. He had spells with Morton and Partick Thistle. He retired from professional football in 1975. He made a very short return to junior football with St Roch's in the 1975–76 season.
In 2016, Stevie Chalmers was honored. He was added to the Scottish Football Hall of Fame.

Personal Life and Health
Stevie Chalmers came from a footballing family. His father, David, played for Clydebank. Stevie's son, Paul, also became a professional footballer. Paul started his career at Celtic in the 1980s. Stevie and his wife, Sadie, had six children.
In 1955, Stevie faced a serious health challenge. He was diagnosed with a severe illness called tuberculosis meningitis. Doctors thought he only had a few weeks to live. However, he received successful treatment and recovered.
In May 2017, it was reported that Stevie was suffering from dementia. He was 81 years old at the time. Because of his health, he could not attend the 50th anniversary events for the Lisbon Lions. Stevie Chalmers passed away on 29 April 2019, at the age of 83.
