Steven Aaron Jordan (born November 2, 1973), known as Stevie J, is an American disc jockey (DJ), record producer, and television personality. He is famous for his work in the music industry, especially with Bad Boy Records.
As part of the Bad Boy Records production team called "The Hitmen," Stevie J helped create many popular songs. He even won a Grammy Award for his work on Sean Combs' (also known as Puff Daddy) album No Way Out in 1997. He has produced music for many famous artists like Mariah Carey, The Notorious B.I.G., Faith Evans, Jay-Z, and Eve.
Early Life
Steven Aaron Jordan was born on November 2, 1973, in Buffalo, New York. He grew up in both Buffalo and Rochester, New York.
Music Career
Stevie J became well-known in the 1990s as a member of "The Hitmen," a group of producers and writers for Bad Boy Records. He often worked closely with the label's owner, Sean "Puffy" Combs.
He produced many songs for Bad Boy artists. For example, he worked on the debut album for the R&B group 112. He produced their hit song "Only You," which featured The Notorious B.I.G..
Stevie J also produced several tracks on The Notorious B.I.G.'s album Life After Death. These included popular songs like "Mo Money Mo Problems" and "Nasty Boy."
He won a Grammy Award for his production work on Sean Combs' album No Way Out. A notable song from that album was "I'll Be Missing You," a tribute to The Notorious B.I.G.
Outside of Bad Boy Records, Stevie J also produced for other big artists. He was nominated for a Grammy Award for his work on Mariah Carey's album Butterfly in 1997. He produced her lead single "Honey" and other songs like "Breakdown."
In the summer of 1997, three songs produced by Stevie J were number one hits on the Billboard Hot 100 chart one after another. These were "I'll Be Missing You," "Mo Money Mo Problems," and "Honey." He has also produced for Beyoncé, Jay-Z, Brian McKnight, Lil' Kim, and Tamia. He also helped write the 2001 hit song "Let Me Blow Ya Mind" for Eve.
Before joining Bad Boy Records, Stevie J played bass guitar for the group Jodeci during their live shows. He also appeared on their 1995 album The Show, The After Party, The Hotel. He was part of Swing Mob, a music group founded by DeVante Swing from Jodeci.
Television Career
In 2012, Stevie J started appearing on the VH1 reality TV show, Love & Hip Hop: Atlanta. The show followed his life and relationships. He became a main cast member and gained a lot of popularity.
Stevie J and Joseline Hernandez, who was also on the show, became a well-known couple in the hip-hop world. They even made guest appearances in music videos for artists like Faith Evans and Trey Songz.
He later starred in his own reality shows, Stevie J & Joseline: Go Hollywood and Leave It to Stevie. He also worked as an executive producer on these shows, meaning he helped make important decisions behind the scenes.
