Stevin John (born Stephen John Grossman, May 27, 1988) is an American children's entertainer. He is best known for playing the character Blippi. You can watch Blippi's videos on YouTube, Hulu, Netflix, HBO Max, Peacock, and Amazon Prime Video.
The Blippi character is very energetic and curious, like a child. Blippi always wears a bright blue and orange outfit. This includes a blue shirt, orange suspenders, an orange bow tie, and a blue and orange hat. Stevin John legally changed his name from Stephen John Grossman to Stevin John before 2019.
Stevin John's Early Life
Stevin John grew up on a farm. He was "surrounded by tractors, cows, and horses." When he was a kid, he dreamed of becoming a limousine driver or a fighter pilot.
The World of Blippi
The idea for Blippi started when Stevin John moved back to Ellensburg, Washington. He noticed his two-year-old nephew watching videos on YouTube that were not very good quality. John wanted to create fun and educational videos for kids.
The very first Blippi video came out on February 18, 2014. In the beginning, Stevin John did everything himself. He starred as Blippi, filmed the videos, edited them, and even created the graphics. He was inspired by other famous children's educators like Mr. Rogers. John wanted Blippi to be educational but also to think and act like a child.
Blippi's videos quickly became very popular. They have been watched over a billion times on YouTube. Because of this success, the team grew. They started making videos in Spanish and created Blippi Toys. They also began selling DVDs and digital downloads of the shows.
Some people have different opinions about Blippi's style. Some parents found the songs about things like garbage trucks or fire trucks to be very simple and repetitive. Other people have compared Blippi's lessons to shows like Mr. Rogers or Sesame Street. They felt that Blippi's world was less deep than these older shows.
