Stewarts Point is a small, special place in Sonoma County, California, United States. It's called an "unincorporated community." This means it's a town that doesn't have its own local government. Instead, the county helps manage it.

Stewarts Point is right on the Pacific coast. It's about 20 miles (32 km) west of Healdsburg. You can find it along California State Route 1, a famous coastal highway.

The area was first bought by William Bihler in 1852. The community got its name from the Stewart family. They were the first people to settle there in 1856.

For thousands of years, Stewarts Point has been important to the Pomo people. They are an indigenous group who lived there long before others arrived. The sheltered bay and small creek gave them access to many ocean and coastal resources.

Later, settlers from San Francisco also saw how useful this spot was. They came to use the tall redwood forests nearby. In 1867, John and Andrew Fisk built the first landing at Stewarts Point. By 1877, three chutes were used to ship wood from local mills. Stewarts Point was, and still is, a key part of California's timber industry.

The Stewarts Point Hotel

The Stewarts Point Hotel is a very old building. It is next to the Stewarts Point Store you see today. Brothers John Colt Fisk and Andrew Fisk built this hotel between 1870 and 1872. It was the second hotel built in the Salt Point area.

This hotel is special because it's the only one built on the Sonoma Coast in the 1800s that is still standing. The hotel stopped being a hotel in 1925. Since then, it has been a private home.

The Stewarts Point School

Stewarts Point also had its own school district. The first schoolhouse was behind the store. A newer schoolhouse was built in the 1880s. This building was located south of the Stewarts Point store. It helped educate the children of the community for many years.
