Stone's Mining History
Stone was started in 1912. It was named after Galen Stone, who was the leader of a company called Pond Creek Coal Company. This company had its main office right there in Stone.
From Pond Creek to Fordson
In 1922, the Pond Creek Coal Company was sold. A new company, Fordson Coal Company, bought it. Fordson Coal Company was actually part of the famous Ford Motor Company! This shows how important coal was for industries like making cars back then.
Eastern Coal Company Takes Over
Later, in 1936, Fordson Coal Company sold the mine in Stone. It was bought by another company called Eastern Coal Company. This change shows how different companies owned and operated the coal mines over the years.
