Stonebridge Lock (number 16) is a special kind of lock on the River Lee Navigation in London, England. It's located near Tottenham in the London Borough of Haringey.

A lock is like a water elevator for boats. It helps boats move between different water levels on a river or canal. Stonebridge Lock is a "paired lock," which means it has two separate lock chambers next to each other. This allows more boats to pass through at the same time!

Some parts of the lock work with machines (mechanical operation), while others still need people to operate them by hand (manual operation). This lock is big enough for large barges, which are flat-bottomed boats, weighing up to 130 tons.

Finding Stonebridge Lock

Stonebridge Lock is located on the River Lee Navigation. On one side, you'll find the Lockwood Reservoir, and on the other, there are the Tottenham Marshes.

You can reach the lock by walking or cycling. The best way to get there is from Marsh Lane, which is behind the Northumberland Park railway station. The towpath, a path next to the water, is part of the Lea Valley Walk. This walk is a great way to explore the area on foot or by bike.

Fun Activities at the Lock

If you enjoy fishing, you're in luck! Angling (fishing with a rod and line) is allowed on the River Lee Navigation both upstream (further along the river) and downstream (closer to the river's end) from Stonebridge Lock. You can find more information about fishing here from the River Lea Anglers Club.
