Stoneville is a small community in Washington County, Mississippi. It is called a census-designated place because the U.S. Census Bureau tracks its population. A pretty stream called Deer Creek flows right through Stoneville.

History of Stoneville

Stoneville has a long history. A post office was first opened here in 1876, and it is still open today. Stoneville officially became a town in 1882, but it is no longer an incorporated town.

In the past, Stoneville was an important stop for trains. It was on the Yazoo and Mississippi Valley Railroad, which started in the 1880s. Later, it also became a stop on the Columbus and Greenville Railway in the 1920s.

Stoneville is home to the Jamie Whitten Delta States Research Center. This center is a place where scientists do important research. For example, George B. Vogt was a famous entomologist, a scientist who studies insects, who worked there.
