Stony Brook Field is a cool baseball park located in Brewster, Massachusetts. It's the home field for the Brewster Whitecaps, a team in the famous Cape Cod Baseball League. This park is right next to Stony Brook Elementary School. It's also one of the few fields in the league that doesn't have lights for night games.

What is Stony Brook Field Like?

Stony Brook Field opened in 2006. It's surrounded by trees on three sides, making it a really nice place to watch a game. The Cape Cod Rail Trail, a popular path, even runs right by it!

This baseball park can hold over 4,000 fans. You'll find small rows of bleachers along both sides of the infield. There are also picnic areas and lots of grassy spots. Fans often bring blankets and beach chairs to relax and watch the game. Behind home plate, there's a press box and a large playground with a safety net overhead.

Why Was Stony Brook Field Built?

The Brewster Whitecaps team joined the Cape Cod Baseball League in 1988. For many years, they didn't have their own field in Brewster. So, they played their home games at Cape Cod Regional Technical High School in nearby Harwich. This was supposed to be a temporary solution, but it lasted until 2005.

Stony Brook Field was finally built thanks to a big donation from the Yawkey Foundation. The team also raised money through donations and volunteers who gave their time and services. The new ballpark allowed the Whitecaps to play "at home" in Brewster. This helped the team become more visible in the town and get more local support from fans.

Big Moments at the Field

Stony Brook Field has seen some exciting baseball history. In 2017, the Whitecaps won their second Cape Cod Baseball League championship right here! A huge crowd watched them win the final game against the Bourne Braves.

Many future professional baseball players have played at Stony Brook Field. Some famous names include Kyle Hendricks, Jeff McNeil, and Aaron Judge. These players went on to become major league stars!
