Strömsund Municipality (Swedish: Strömsunds kommun, Southern Sami: Straejmien tjïelte) is a municipality in Jämtland County in northern Sweden. Its main office, called the seat, is in the town of Strömsund.
The closest big city is Östersund. It is the capital of Jämtland and is about 100 kilometers (62 miles) south of Strömsund.

History of Strömsund
Strömsund Municipality was created in 1974. It was formed by joining four smaller areas: Fjällsjö, Frostviken, Hammerdal, and Ström. The town of Strömsund was the biggest place. So, it became the main office for the new municipality. The municipality was also named after this town.
Geography of Strömsund
Strömsund Municipality is very large. It covers about 12,000 square kilometers (4,600 square miles). This makes it the sixth largest municipality in all of Sweden. It is also one of the most spread out, meaning not many people live there per square kilometer.
The town of Strömsund has about 3,500 people. It sits on the slopes of Ströms vattudal. This is a river that flows right through the town. Local people often call the town "Ström" or "Flata." "Flata" refers to the flat slope where the town center is built.

Economy and Tourism
For a long time, the forest industry has been very important here. This means cutting down trees and using wood for different products. Today, tourism is also a big part of the economy. Many visitors come to Strömsund.
Like other parts of Jämtland, people are drawn to the beautiful nature. There are many forests, mountains, lakes, and rivers to explore.
Two of the most popular places to visit are Hembygdsgården in Strömsund and Hällingsåfallet. Hembygdsgården had 16,000 visitors, and Hällingsåfallet had 12,000 visitors. Another cool place to see is the cave called Korallgrottan.
