Strijen is a town located in the western part of the Netherlands. It is part of the province of South Holland. This town sits on the Hoeksche Waard island. The island is next to the Hollands Diep estuary, which is where a river meets the sea.
Strijen used to be its own municipality. A municipality is like a local government area. But on January 1, 2019, Strijen joined with other nearby municipalities. These were Binnenmaas, Cromstrijen, Korendijk, and Oud-Beijerland. Together, they formed a new, larger municipality called Hoeksche Waard.
