Playing for the Grizzlies (2000–2005)

Stromile Swift was chosen as the second player in the 2000 NBA draft by the Vancouver Grizzlies. His first game was on October 31, 2000. The Grizzlies won against the Seattle SuperSonics. Swift played for 9 minutes and got 1 rebound.

For his second season, the Grizzlies team moved to Memphis. Even though he didn't start every game, he played much more. This season was his best, as he scored the most points (11.8), grabbed the most rebounds (6.3), and blocked the most shots (1.7) per game. He also took part in the 2001 Slam Dunk Competition. He finished in fourth place in that exciting contest.

On April 17, 2002, Swift had a fantastic game. He scored a career-high 31 points and got 10 rebounds. This happened in a game against the Seattle SuperSonics.

Time with the Houston Rockets (2005–2006)

After the 2004–05 season, Swift became a free agent. This means he could choose which team to play for next. He signed a four-year contract with the Houston Rockets. When he left for Houston, Swift was the last player on the Grizzlies team who had been with them since they were in Vancouver.

Back with the Memphis Grizzlies (2006–2008)

In 2006, Swift was traded back to the Memphis Grizzlies. This trade also involved the Grizzlies getting Rudy Gay, a new player from the draft. For a while, Swift was the starting center for the team.

On January 3, 2007, Swift scored 26 points. This helped the Grizzlies win a high-scoring game against the Golden State Warriors. His teammate Mike Miller also scored a lot of points in that game.

Playing for the New Jersey Nets (2008–2009)

On February 4, 2008, Swift was traded to the New Jersey Nets. He played his first game with the Nets four days later. He scored his first basket for them with a jump shot. In another game, he made an amazing alley-oop dunk. This was from a pass by Jason Kidd, another famous player.

Swift was released by the Nets on March 1, 2009.

Short Time with the Phoenix Suns (2009)

On March 4, 2009, the Phoenix Suns signed Swift for the rest of the season. He played 13 games for the Suns. In these games, he averaged 2 points and 2.5 rebounds.
