Stromile Emanuel Swift (born November 21, 1979) is an American former professional basketball player. He played college basketball for Louisiana State University (LSU). He was picked second overall in the 2000 NBA draft by the Vancouver Grizzlies. Standing 6 feet 10 inches tall and weighing 220 pounds, he played as a power forward and center.

College Career

Swift played college basketball at Louisiana State University (LSU). In his second year, he helped the LSU Tigers reach the Sweet 16 round of the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament. This was a big achievement because the LSU basketball program had limited scholarships at the time.

Professional Career

Vancouver and Memphis Grizzlies (2000–2005)

The Vancouver Grizzlies chose Swift as the second player overall in the 2000 NBA draft. His first game was on October 31, 2000. The Grizzlies won against the Seattle SuperSonics. Swift played for 9 minutes and got 1 rebound.

For his second season, the Grizzlies team moved to Memphis. Even though he did not start most games, he played much more often. This was his best season, as he scored the most points, rebounds, and blocks per game in his career.

In 2001, he also took part in the Slam Dunk Competition. He finished in fourth place.

On April 17, 2002, Swift scored a career-high 31 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in a game.

Houston Rockets (2005–2006)

After the 2004–05 season, Swift left the Grizzlies. He signed a four-year contract with the Houston Rockets. When he joined the Rockets for the 2005–06 season, he was the last player from the original Vancouver Grizzlies team to move with them to Memphis.

Return to Memphis (2006–2008)

In 2006, Swift was traded back to the Memphis Grizzlies. He was traded along with the rights to Rudy Gay for Shane Battier. For some time, he was the starting center for the Grizzlies.

On January 3, 2007, Swift scored 26 points. This helped the Grizzlies win a high-scoring game against the Golden State Warriors.

New Jersey Nets (2008–2009)

On February 4, 2008, Swift was traded to the New Jersey Nets. He played his first game with the Nets four days later. He scored his first basket with the team on a jump shot.

On March 1, 2009, the Nets decided to let Swift go.

Phoenix Suns (2009)

On March 4, 2009, the Phoenix Suns signed Swift for the rest of the season. He played 13 games for the Suns. In these games, he averaged about 2 points and 2.5 rebounds.

Swift's last NBA game was on April 11, 2009. The Suns won against the Minnesota Timberwolves.

Shandong Lions (2009–2010)

Swift signed with the Philadelphia 76ers in September 2009. However, he was released from the team a month later.

In December 2009, Swift signed with the Shandong Lions. This team plays in the Chinese Basketball Association. He made his debut with them in the same month.
