Stuart Damon (born Stuart Michael Zonis; February 5, 1937 – June 29, 2021) was an American actor and singer. He was most famous for playing Dr. Alan Quartermaine for 30 years on the TV show General Hospital. He won an Emmy Award in 1999 for this role. Outside the United States, he was also known for playing Craig Stirling in the series The Champions.

Early Life and Beginnings
Stuart Damon was born in Brooklyn, New York. His father, Marvin Leonard Zonis, was a manufacturer. Stuart's parents were Russian Jewish immigrants who came to America after the Bolshevik Revolution.
Stuart Damon started his acting career on Broadway, which is a famous theater district in New York City. One of his early big roles was playing the Prince in the 1965 TV version of Cinderella. This helped him get many roles in television later on. He also appeared in other musicals like Do I Hear a Waltz? and Irma La Douce.
Life and Roles in Great Britain
Stuart Damon moved to Great Britain for a while. There, he starred in a popular musical called Charlie Girl in 1965. He was then chosen to play an American secret agent named Craig Stirling in the TV series The Champions. This show was very popular.
He also appeared with famous actor Roger Moore in an episode of The Saint. This role is thought to have inspired another TV series called The Persuaders!. In 1968, Stuart Damon played Henry Adams in a BBC TV show called The £1,000,000 Bank Note. He even played the famous magician Harry Houdini in a London musical called Man of Magic.
After these roles, Stuart Damon appeared in other British TV shows. These included Thriller, The New Avengers, and a children's show called The Adventures of Black Beauty. In this show, he played a hypnotist.
Becoming Dr. Alan Quartermaine
In 1977, Stuart Damon returned to the United States. He began his most famous American role as Dr. Alan Quartermaine Sr. on the soap opera General Hospital. He played this character for many years. He also played the same role on a spin-off show called Port Charles from 1997 to 2003.
In 1999, Stuart Damon won an Emmy Award for Best Supporting Actor for his work as Alan Quartermaine. Even after his character died on General Hospital in 2007, Stuart Damon continued to appear on the show. He played Alan's ghost, who would sometimes appear to other characters. He stayed with the show in this way until 2008.
Stuart Damon also appeared on other soap operas. In 2009, he was on As the World Turns as Ralph Manzo. From 2010, he played Governor Jim Ford on Days of Our Lives. He returned to General Hospital a few more times as Alan's ghost in 2011, 2012, and for the show's 50th anniversary in 2013.
Personal Life
Stuart Damon married Deirdre Ann Ottewill on March 12, 1961. She was also an actress, singer, and dancer. They had two children, Christopher and Jennifer. Deirdre passed away in 2019.
Stuart Damon died on June 29, 2021, at the age of 84. He passed away from kidney failure in Los Angeles. He had lived in a retirement community for actors for seven years.
Awards and Recognition
Stuart Damon was nominated for several awards during his career. He won a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 1999 for his role on General Hospital. He also won a Soap Opera Digest Award in 1996 for Outstanding Actor in a Supporting Role.
