Styles P's Music Journey
The Lox: Early Days

The Lox started rapping in the mid-1990s. They became well-known in the underground music scene. This was thanks to their live shows and street freestyles. When they were teenagers, they met singer Mary J. Blige. She was impressed by their lyrics. She then shared their music with Sean Combs, also known as "Puffy."
Combs quickly signed The Lox to his record label, Bad Boy Records. The group soon worked on hit songs with Combs, The Notorious B.I.G., Mary J. Blige, and Mariah Carey. This made them famous in hip hop and on the music charts. In 1996 and 1997, they wrote and performed on many popular songs. These included "It's All About the Benjamins" and "I Got the Power."
In 1997, The Lox gained international fame. Their song "We'll Always Love Big Poppa" was a tribute to the late Biggie Smalls. It was the B-side to Combs' hit song "I'll Be Missing You." This opened the door for The Lox to release their own album. Their first album, Money, Power & Respect, came out in January 1998. It sold very well and became a platinum album.
However, the group felt that Bad Boy Records' style didn't fit their own music. They wanted to leave the label. After some discussions, they were allowed to leave. They then signed with Ruff Ryders Entertainment and Interscope Records.
Solo Success and New Labels
After releasing another Lox album, We Are the Streets, Styles P released his first solo album. This album, A Gangster and a Gentleman, came out in 2002. The song "Good Times" was a big hit from this album. It was played a lot on the radio.
In 2004, Styles P was featured on a different version of Akon's popular song "Locked Up." Two years later, he released his second album, Time is Money, with Ruff Ryders. In 2007, Styles P left Ruff Ryders and Interscope. He then released his third album, Super Gangster (Extraordinary Gentleman), independently.
