Where Does Mountain Neststraw Grow?
This plant naturally grows in the southwestern United States. You can find it in places like southern California and Arizona. It also lives in northwestern Mexico, specifically in Baja California and Sonora. Mountain neststraw can grow in many different kinds of places, or habitats. In some areas, it is quite common.
What Does Mountain Neststraw Look Like?
Stylocline gnaphaloides is a small plant that lives for only one year. We call plants that live for one year "annual herbs." It grows very close to the ground, usually only a few centimeters tall. The plant often has a fuzzy, white coating, almost like wool. Its small leaves are blunt, meaning they have a rounded tip. They grow one after another along the stem, reaching up to about 1.4 centimeters long.
Flowers and Seeds
The plant's flowers grow in round groups called flower heads. Each flower head is only a few millimeters wide. These heads have special leaf-like parts called phyllaries, which are usually white and hairy. Inside the head, there are tiny, woolly white flowers. After the plant flowers, it produces seeds, completing its life cycle.
