Subrata Roy (Bengali: সুব্রত রায়) is a scientist, inventor, and teacher from India. He is famous for his work with plasma. Plasma helps control how air moves and can even clean things.

He is a professor at the University of Florida. There, he teaches about mechanical and aerospace engineering. He also started the Applied Physics Research Group at the University of Florida. Dr. Roy is also the founder and president of SurfPlasma Inc., a company that works with biotechnology.

About Subrata Roy

Subrata Roy earned his Ph.D. in engineering science in 1994. He studied at the University of Tennessee in Knoxville, Tennessee. Before joining the University of Florida, he worked as a research scientist. He was also a professor of mechanical engineering at Kettering University until 2006.

In 2006, Dr. Roy became a faculty member at the University of Florida. He teaches in the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering. He has also been a visiting professor at other universities. These include the University of Manchester and the Indian Institute of Technology Bombay.

Amazing Scientific Work

Dr. Subrata Roy's research covers many exciting areas. He studies how liquids and gases move (called computational fluid dynamics). He also works with plasma physics, how heat travels, and tiny flows of liquids.

In 2006, Dr. Roy invented the Wingless Electromagnetic Air Vehicle (WEAV). This was a special design for an aircraft that didn't need wings. It moved using electromagnetic forces. Scientific American magazine featured this design in 2008.

Dr. Roy is well-known for his work with plasma actuators. These are devices that use plasma. They help planes and other vehicles move more smoothly. Plasma actuators can also save fuel and make less noise. They can even help keep parts of jet engines cool. He designed different types of plasma actuators. Some were tiny, and others had special shapes like fans.

He also led research into new, eco-friendly ways to kill germs. He used plasma reactors to clean things like microorganisms.

Awards and Honors

Dr. Subrata Roy has received many important awards for his work.
