Sudhira Das (born March 8, 1932 – died October 30, 2015) was a very important engineer from India. She made history as the first female engineer from the state of Odisha. This was a big deal because, at that time, it was not common for women in India to go to college or become engineers.

Early Life and Education
Sudhira Das was born in Cuttack, Odisha, on March 8, 1932. Her family was well-known and important. Even when she was a child, she loved Mathematics.
Her College Years
Sudhira Das went to Ravenshaw College. She earned her first college degree, a Bachelor of Science, in 1951. Later, in 1956, she went to the University of Science and Technology in Calcutta. There, she earned a master's degree in Radio Physics and Electronics. This meant she studied how radio waves and electronic devices work.
Her Work as an Engineer and Teacher
After finishing her master's degree, Sudhira Das started teaching. In 1957, she became a math teacher at the Berhampur Engineering School. Today, this school is called the Uma Charan Pattnaik Engineering School.
Later, she became the principal of the Women’s Polytechnic in Rourkela. A polytechnic is a special school that teaches practical skills for jobs.
From 1957 to 1990, Sudhira Das worked for the government of Odisha. She helped in many different ways. One of her biggest achievements was starting the Women’s Polytechnic in Bhubaneswar. This school offers special diploma programs for female students. It helped many young women get an education and learn skills for future jobs.
Later Life
Sudhira Das passed away on October 30, 2015. She was 83 years old. Her work helped open doors for many women in engineering and education in India.
