Sudoku (pronounced soo-DOH-koo) is a super popular puzzle game, especially in Japan. It's also known as Number Place or Nanpure.

This fun game was first created in 1979 by Howard Garns in Indianapolis. It later appeared in magazines like Dell Magazines. Sometimes, you might even see it spelled as Su Doku.

To play Sudoku, you need a special grid. This grid has nine rows, nine columns, and nine larger boxes. These boxes are usually marked by thicker, darker lines. You also need a pen or pencil. Your goal is to fill in all the empty squares. The main rule is simple: you can't use the same number twice in any single row, column, or box.

Many books have been written to help people get better at Sudoku. These books often share cool strategies and tips. You can also find huge collections of puzzles in books. Plus, there are computer programs online that can make new Sudoku puzzles for you to solve!

Discover Different Sudoku Games

Did you know there are many different ways to play Sudoku? Since the original game became famous, lots of new versions have been invented.

What is Jigsaw Sudoku?

Jigsaw Sudoku is a fun twist on the classic game. It's also called Squiggly Sudoku, Odd Sudoku, or Jig Saw Doku. The main difference is how the boxes are shaped. Instead of perfect squares, the lines that make up the boxes are all wiggly and different! But don't worry, your goal is still the same: fill the grid following the rules.

How to Play Samurai Sudoku

Samurai Sudoku is a much bigger challenge! Imagine five regular Sudoku grids all connected together. They usually overlap in a shape that looks like a big "X." These puzzles are huge and can take a long time to finish. Just like in regular Sudoku, you need to solve all five grids to complete the entire puzzle.

Playing Mini Sudoku

Mini Sudoku is perfect if you want a quicker game. It's played on a smaller 6x6 grid. The boxes are also smaller, usually 3x2 in size. The rules are the same as regular Sudoku. However, since the grid is smaller, you only use the numbers 1 through 6.

What is Logic 5 Sudoku?

Logic 5 is another interesting Sudoku variation. Instead of the usual 3x3 boxes, it uses 5x5 grids. This type of Sudoku is even used in big competitions, like the Sudoku World Championships!
