Susan Frances Harmar Nicholls, born on November 23, 1943, is a famous English actress. She is best known for playing the character Audrey Roberts in the TV show Coronation Street. She has been on the show for a very long time, starting in 1979.
Before Coronation Street, Sue Nicholls also acted in other popular British TV shows. These include Crossroads, The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin, and Rentaghost. She even performed on Broadway in New York City in 1974. For her role as Audrey Roberts, she has won several awards. Susan Frances Harmar Nicholls was born in Darlaston, a town in England. Her father was Sir Harmar Nicholls, who was a Member of Parliament. This means he was a politician who helped make laws for the country. Because of her father's title, Sue Nicholls is known as "The Honourable Susan Nicholls."
She has a sister named Judith. Sue Nicholls went to a school called the School of St Mary and St Anne. She also studied acting at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art. This is a very famous school for actors in London.
Sue Nicholls' Acting Career
Sue Nicholls first became well-known for her role as Marilyn Gates. She played this character on the TV show Crossroads from 1964 to 1968. While on the show, she sang a song called "Where Will You Be?". This song became popular and reached number 17 on the music charts in the UK in 1968.
After her time on Crossroads, Sue Nicholls performed in cabaret shows. She traveled around the country with her own act. She also acted in many different plays and pantomimes on stage. In the 1970s, she had some interesting experiences abroad. She sang in a nightclub in Vienna. In 1974, she toured America and Canada with the Royal Shakespeare Company. They performed a play called London Assurance, which ended with a six-week run on Broadway.
She played Joan Greengross in the TV comedy The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin. This show was on from 1976 to 1979. She also played Nadia Popov in Rentaghost. In 1973, she was Mrs Muddle in Pipkins. She also appeared in a police drama called The Professionals in 1980.

Sue Nicholls was married to actor Mark Eden. They were married from 1993 until he passed away in 2021. Mark Eden also acted on Coronation Street. He played the character Alan Bradley from 1986 to 1989.
In 2011, something very interesting happened. A nurse named Anna Bianconi-Moore was watching Coronation Street. She noticed a mole on Sue Nicholls' shoulder. The nurse was worried about it and contacted the TV show. Sue Nicholls then saw a skin cancer specialist. She was diagnosed with malignant melanoma, which is a type of skin cancer. The mole was removed with surgery. The TV company, ITV, told the nurse what had happened. The nurse was then invited to the Coronation Street set to meet Sue Nicholls.
