Sulkava is a municipality in Finland. It is located in the Southern Savonia region. A municipality is like a local government area. Sulkava is known for its beautiful nature. It has many lakes and forests.

Sulkava Rowing Race
Sulkava is most famous for its exciting annual rowing contest. This event is called Sulkavan Suursoudut. It is a long-distance race. Rowers go around Partalansaari ("Partala Island"). This island is located on the huge lake Saimaa.

The Sulkava Rowing Race is one of the biggest rowing events in Finland. People come from all over to take part. It's a test of strength and teamwork. Many different kinds of boats are used. This includes traditional Finnish church boats.
When does it happen?
The race usually takes place in July. It brings many visitors to Sulkava. The atmosphere is very lively and fun. It's a great way to see Finnish culture.
