Juva (also known as Swedish: Juva or Jockas) is a special type of town called a municipality in Finland. It is located in the Southern Savonia region. Juva is about 270 kilometers (168 miles) northeast of Helsinki, the capital city.

Juva has a very long history! It was officially founded on January 19, 1442. This makes it the oldest parish or municipality in Finland where we know the exact date it began. Back then, it was only the second parish in Eastern Finland. Over many years, several other towns and areas grew out of Juva. These include places like Savonlinna, Kuopio, and Pieksämäki. The local government, which manages the town, was set up in 1868.
