Sumita Devi, born Hena Bhattacharya, was a famous actress from Bangladesh. She was also known as Nilufar Begum. She acted in about 200 films and many radio and TV shows. Her career lasted for 45 years. She even worked as an artist for Swadhin Bangla Betar Kendra in 1971. This was a special radio station during the Bangladesh Liberation War.

Early Life and Acting Start

Sumita Devi was born in a place called Manikganj District. This was in the Bengal Presidency, a part of British India at that time. She moved with her family to Dhaka in 1944. Later, in 1951, they moved to Kolkata (then Calcutta).

She started her acting career in the film Asiya in 1960. Sumita Devi was the first actress from what was then East Pakistan to act in a film made in West Pakistan. That film was called Dhupchhaya. She later became a film producer herself, making five movies.
