History of Summit Township
Summit Township was officially created in 1871. It got its name from a special natural feature: a high ridge. This ridge acts as a watershed, which means it's a dividing line for water. Rain that falls on one side flows towards the Mississippi River, and rain on the other side flows towards the Missouri River.
Early Post Office in Summit Township
A post office called Linwood opened in Summit Township in March 1895. This was an important place for people to send and receive mail. Henry L. Manion was the first person in charge of the post office. However, the Linwood post office closed down in 1903.

Towns and Landmarks
The township includes one main town, which is Adair. It's the only incorporated settlement within Summit Township.
