Sun City West is a community located in Maricopa County, Arizona, in the United States. It is known as a "census-designated place" (CDP), which means it's a recognized area where people live, even if it's not an official city. In 2020, about 25,806 people lived in Sun City West.

Location and Size
Sun City West is about 23 miles (37 kilometers) northwest of downtown Phoenix. The city of Surprise borders it on three sides: south, west, and north. Important roads like U.S. Route 60 and Arizona State Route 303 are also nearby.
The community covers a total area of about 12 square miles (31 square kilometers). Most of this area is land, with only a small part being water.
Who Lives in Sun City West?

Sun City West is home to many people. In 2010, there were 24,535 people living there. Most residents were White (97.8%), with smaller groups of Black or African American, Native American, and Asian people. About 1.2% of the population was Hispanic or Latino.
The community has many households, with many being single people or married couples. Sun City West is known for being a place where many older adults live. The average age of residents in 2010 was about 75.6 years old.
History of Sun City West
Sun City West was built on a large piece of land, about 11,000 acres (4,450 hectares). This land was once part of a cattle ranch called Lizard Acres. The community was completely finished in 1997. After that, a similar community called Sun City Grand was started nearby.
During the coronavirus pandemic in 2020, many places in Sun City West had to close temporarily. This included recreation centers and golf courses, to help keep people safe. All these places were able to reopen in March 2021.
Community Services
Sun City West has important services to support its residents. Electricity is provided by Arizona Public Service. Natural gas comes from Southwest Gas. Water and sewer services are handled by a private company called Epcor Water. Trash collection is also managed by a private company.
