The Suncook Lakes are two beautiful lakes located in New Hampshire, USA. You can find them in Belknap County, right in the town of Barnstead. These lakes are a great spot for outdoor fun and learning about nature.

What Are the Suncook Lakes?

The Suncook Lakes are actually made up of two separate lakes. They are called Upper Suncook Lake and Lower Suncook Lake. Upper Suncook Lake is bigger, covering about 402 acres. Lower Suncook Lake is a bit smaller, at around 295 acres.

How the Lakes Are Connected

These two lakes are linked by a channel that is about 1,000 feet long. A road bridge goes over this channel. At the end of Lower Suncook Lake, there is a dam. This dam helps control how much water is in both lakes. The lakes are also part of the Suncook River system. This river eventually flows into the larger Merrimack River. Lower Suncook Lake also has three small islands.

Exploring the Depths of Suncook Lakes

The Suncook Lakes have different depths. Lower Suncook Lake is about 9 feet deep on average. Its deepest spot is around 16 feet. Upper Suncook Lake is much deeper. Its average depth is greater, and it can be more than 40 feet deep in some places.

Fish You Can Find

The Suncook Lakes are known as a "warmwater fishery." This means they are a good home for fish that like warmer water. You can find many types of fish here. Some common ones include smallmouth and largemouth bass. You might also spot chain pickerel, horned pout (which are a type of brown bullhead), and white perch. If you are fishing in the deeper Upper Suncook Lake, you might even catch a rainbow trout!
