Super Chicken is a fun cartoon about a superhero chicken. It was a part of the animated TV show George of the Jungle. The show was made by Jay Ward and Bill Scott. They also created the famous Rocky and Bullwinkle cartoons. Super Chicken first appeared on September 9, 1967, on the ABC network.

Meet Super Chicken and Fred

Super Chicken is a brave superhero who is actually a rich chicken named Henry Cabot Henhouse III. He wears a cool cape and a fancy hat! His voice was done by Bill Scott.

Fred, the Lion Sidekick

Super Chicken has a loyal sidekick named Fred. Fred is a lion who is also a vegetarian, meaning he only eats plants! When Henry is not being a superhero, Fred acts as his helper. Fred wears a special sweatshirt with a backwards "F" on it.

Becoming Super Chicken

When trouble starts, Henry quickly drinks his "Super Sauce." This special drink helps him change into Super Chicken! He then puts on his "Super Suit." This suit includes a feathered hat, a cape, tall Wellington boots, a mask, and a sword.

Their Adventures Begin

Super Chicken and Fred often start their missions with a shout: "To the Super Coop, Fred!" The Super Coop is their amazing egg-shaped flying vehicle. They use it to fly around and save people from bad guys.

Funny Catchphrases

During their adventures, Fred often gets hurt. Super Chicken always tells him, "You knew the job was dangerous when you took it, Fred!" If Super Chicken makes a mistake, he usually says, "I'm glad no one was here to see that!"

A Hero with a Message

Super Chicken was created to make fun of rich people who felt they had to help society. He was like other famous heroes, such as Batman, who was a millionaire fighting crime. Other similar heroes include Zorro and the Scarlet Pimpernel.

It looks like the Easter Bunny is robbing banks! Super Chicken finds out it's actually Louie the Lapin in a disguise. Louie hates the color green and wants to dye all the money.

A strong criminal called the Muscle makes Super Chicken exercise until he's tired. Super Chicken tries to get stronger with double-strength Super Sauce, but it's too much!

Super Chicken in Comic Books

In 1969, a company called Gold Key Comics made two comic books about George of the Jungle. Each comic book also had a story about Super Chicken. Issue #1 featured "The Stolen State," and issue #2 had "The Astounding Dr. Gizmo!" These stories were based on the cartoon episodes.
