Susan Lynne Bayh (born November 28, 1959 – died February 5, 2021) was an American lawyer. She served as the First Lady of Indiana from 1989 to 1997. She was married to Evan Bayh, a politician from Indiana. Evan Bayh was the state's governor from 1989 to 1997 and later a United States Senator from 1999 to 2011.
Susan Bayh's Career Journey
Susan Bayh started her career as a lawyer. She worked for law firms in Los Angeles and later in Indiana. In 1989, she joined Eli Lilly and Company, a big pharmaceutical company in Indianapolis. There, she helped manage how the company dealt with government rules.
In 1994, Susan Bayh left Eli Lilly. She then taught at Butler University's College of Business Administration as a special visiting professor. She also served on the boards of many companies. This means she was part of a group that helped guide these companies. She worked with companies in different areas, like insurance, medicine, and food.
Her Personal Life and Education
Susan Bayh earned her first college degree, a Bachelor of Arts, from the University of California, Berkeley. She was also a "Miss Southern California" before her career. She later earned her law degree, called a Juris Doctor, from the University of Southern California Law School in 1984.
Susan Bayh married Evan Bayh in 1985. They had twin sons named Birch Evans IV (Beau) and Nicholas, who were born in 1995.
In 2018, Susan Bayh had surgery for a serious illness. She passed away in McLean, Virginia, on February 5, 2021, at the age of 61.
