Sussex is a village located in Waukesha County, Wisconsin, in the United States. It's about 19 miles (31 km) northwest of Milwaukee. The village is 7.24 square miles (18.75 km²) in size. In 2020, about 11,487 people lived there. Sussex is part of the larger Milwaukee area.

History of Sussex
How Sussex Was Founded
Sussex was started in 1843 by two men from England. George Elliott, a bricklayer, came from a place called Beckley in East Sussex. Richard Cooling, a blacksmith, was from Dorset. They helped create this new community.
Becoming an Official Village
Sussex officially became a village on September 12, 1924. At that time, it had 387 people. The people voted on August 19, 1924, to become a village. Most people voted "yes." Frank Grogan was the first president of the village.

Sussex covers about 7.62 square miles (19.74 km²). Most of this area is land, with a small part being water. It's a nice place to live with open spaces.
The Bugline Trail
A cool feature in Sussex is the Bugline Trail. This is a paved path that used to be a railroad line. It runs right through the village and is 15.6 miles (25.1 km) long. People can use it for walking, biking, and running.
