Sutton Island is a small island located in the far north of Canada. It is part of Nunavut, which is one of Canada's three territories. This island is found in a body of water called the Dolphin and Union Strait.
Where is Sutton Island Located?
Sutton Island is in a very northern part of the world. It sits right next to another island called Liston/Listen Island. If you look northeast from Sutton Island, you would see Rymer Point and Simpson Bay. These places are on the Wollaston Peninsula of Victoria Island. To the southwest, you would find Bernard Harbour on the mainland. Chantrey Island is also in that direction.
The First People of Sutton Island
For a very long time, Sutton Island was home to different groups of Copper Inuit people. These groups included the Puiplirmiut (sometimes called Puiblirmiut) and the Noahonirmiut. These groups were part of the larger Copper Inuit community. They lived on and around the island for many generations. They used the land and sea for hunting and gathering.
