Exploring Swartzville's Location

Swartzville is found in the northeastern part of Lancaster County. It sits in the northeast section of East Cocalico Township.

Nearby Towns and Roads

Swartzville has several neighbors and important roads around it. To the northeast, it borders the borough of Adamstown. To the southeast, you'll find the U.S. Route 222 freeway. The Pennsylvania Turnpike, also known as Interstate 76, is to the southwest.

Pennsylvania Route 272 (North Reading Road) runs right through Swartzville. This road goes northeast through Adamstown for about 2.5 miles (4 km) to US-222. If you go southwest on PA 272, you'll reach Ephrata in about 6 miles (10 km).

Another important road, Pennsylvania Route 897 (Swartzville Road), crosses PA 272 in the middle of the community. PA 897 heads northwest about 3.5 miles (5.6 km) to Reinholds. Going south on PA 897 will take you about 6 miles (10 km) to Terre Hill.

Connecting to Larger Cities

Swartzville is well-connected to bigger cities. Using US 222, you can reach Lancaster, which is the county seat, about 21 miles (34 km) to the southwest. If you head northeast on US 222, you'll get to Reading in about 12 miles (19 km). For those traveling on the Pennsylvania Turnpike, Exit 266 is only about 2 miles (3 km) south of Swartzville.

Land and Water Features

The U.S. Census Bureau states that the Swartzville CDP covers a total area of about 3.8 square kilometers (1.5 square miles). Most of this area is land. Only a very small part, about 0.02 square kilometers (0.0077 square miles), is water. This means about 0.48% of Swartzville's area is water.

The western side of Swartzville has a stream called Stony Run. This stream flows into Cocalico Creek. The eastern side of Swartzville drains into Little Muddy Creek. Little Muddy Creek is a smaller stream that flows into Muddy Creek. Both Cocalico Creek and Muddy Creek eventually flow southwest into the Conestoga River. The Conestoga River is part of the larger Susquehanna River watershed, which means all these waters eventually join the Susquehanna River.
