History of Terre Hill
How Terre Hill Got Its Name and Started
Terre Hill was once called "Fairville." It officially became a borough in 1907. This happened after a successful court case to separate from East Earl Township.
Past Industries and Landmarks
Long ago, Terre Hill was a major center for making cigars in Lancaster County. One of the most famous buildings in the town is the 19th-century clock at the borough hall.
Traffic and Roads in Terre Hill
Terre Hill is one of the smallest boroughs in Lancaster County by population. Only Christiana has fewer residents. As of 2022, Terre Hill did not have any traffic lights.
In spring 2023, the first four-way stop was added. This new stop sign intersection is at East Main Street and Earl Street. It was created when part of PA Route 625 was closed for pipe work.

Where is Terre Hill Located?
Terre Hill is found in the northeastern part of Lancaster County. Its exact location is 40°9′27″N 76°3′1″W / 40.15750°N 76.05028°W. Pennsylvania Route 897 is the main road, also known as Main Street, in the borough.
This road goes north about 6 miles (10 km) to Swartzville. It also goes south about 4 miles (6 km) to East Earl. Terre Hill is about 18 miles (29 km) northeast of Lancaster, which is the main city of the county. It is also about 16 miles (26 km) southwest of Reading.
Land and Water Around Terre Hill
The United States Census Bureau says that Terre Hill covers a total area of about 0.46 square miles (1.2 km2). Almost all of this area is land. Only a tiny part, about 0.09%, is water.
The town is on high ground. It looks over the Weaverland Valley in eastern Lancaster County. The water in the area flows into the Conestoga River. This river then flows southwest into the larger Susquehanna River.

Terre Hill hosts many public events throughout the year. These events are for both residents and visitors. The Terre Hill Days Committee organizes these special events. All the money raised goes to help maintain and improve the Terre Hill Park.

The biggest event is called Terre Hill Days. In 2007, the borough celebrated its 100th birthday with a special Terre Hill Days festival!
Christmas in the Park
Since 2018, a "Christmas in the Park" event has become a popular holiday tradition. This event also raises money for the Terre Hill Park. During this festive time, the entire park turns into a Christmas wonderland. You can find lights, live music, food, and other entertainment.
