Becoming an Official City
In 1894, the people of Swea City wanted it to become an official city. This process is called "incorporation." They had an election, but there were some problems with how it was done. For example, the voting slips didn't clearly offer both "for" and "against" options on the same paper.
Because of these issues, a second election was held in April 1895. This time, the voting slips were clear. The people voted 34 to 1 in favor of becoming an official city. So, Swea City was officially incorporated!
