A Look at Sweet's History
Sweet was started in 1885 by a person named Ezekiel Sweet. At first, it was a place where farmers and ranchers could get supplies and send mail. It served the people living in the nearby Lower Squaw Creek Valley.
The Gold Rush Boom
Sweet grew a lot when gold was found at the Thunder Mountain Mines. By the year 1900, Sweet was a busy place! It had three saloons, three hotels, many different businesses, and even its own newspaper. However, the newspaper stopped when the gold mines ran out of gold.
Fires and Today's Sweet
Over the years, several fires destroyed most of Sweet's old downtown area. Today, Sweet is a smaller community. You can find a restaurant, a butcher shop, a repair shop, a lumber mill, and a post office there.
